Examining Codes of Ethics

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
1. We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value and human potential of each child.
To me this is an important to my professional life because we deal with children and families that are so different, yet it is so important for them to feel that they are respected and appreciated even though they are different. This even spills over into the staff and allowing this to be seen on my part as an owner and the teachers through treating them with respect.

PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION:
1. We shall honor and respect our responsibilities to colleagues while upholding the dignity and autonomy of colleagues and maintaining collegial interprofessional and intraprofessional relationships.
In my profession, this is important because there are cases that employees do not see eye to eye and do not get along. Its vital that these employees, teachers uphold this professional mind for the sake of the children that they all have in common. Although these are the emotions important this is upholding dignity and respect for one another so that the children benefit from their work and model that they present the children with.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATION:
1. We shall continually be aware of issues challenging the field of early childhood special education and advocate for changes in laws, regulations, and policies leading to improved outcomes and services for young children with disabilities and their families.
This is an issue that is significant in early childhood education because in this profession, regulations, policies, rules of all sorts are continually being reexamined and it is our duty to stay abreast of them. No matter what your profession is, it's your responsibility to know the latest so that you are giving accurate information and carrying out things within the recent regulations of your field, as for me, in the area of childcare. To simply keep up with the changes are vital to the effectiveness of our profession.

  1. Tasja,
Children look up to us their role models. I agree with you as to how important it is for us as educators no matter what our differences to behave professionally at all times for this reason. Children sense it immediately when their is tension between their teachers although we may try hard not to show it. We try to teach children how to build and maintain relationship with peers and it is important for us to model the same no matter how difficult it maybe. What kind of guidance have you offered your teachers when they did not see eye to eye?

I like the one about Professional Development and Preparation. I believe in our field we should know all the laws dealing with children in our profession

  3. Tasja,

We are the models of the behavioral outcome expected by the child; therefore, I agree with you that we need to appreciate the unique value and potential of each child. Children are inspired by their nurturers constantly, my students of hula will always come to me after class to say thank you. We have fun during class, playing to learn the hula and enjoying class. My expectation of their behavior is my own reflections! Your thoughts? Keala
